NEW!
How Consumer Intelligence Data Levels the Market Playing Field

New Frontier logoJohn Kagia joins us from New Frontier Data where he works as the Chief Knowledge Officer.  The aspect of gathering consumer data has barely been broached in the cannabis industry because it is such a young industry.  Yet, doing so allows one to analyze the trends that have clearly formed.  Analyzing trends now is vital for this burgeoning industry that was already showing volatility before the advent of COVID.  New Frontier Data specializes in research and intelligence which put them at the forefront when they saw the need for gathering data here.  Equipped with years of data, they developed a unique understanding of where this past decade has brought us and how we can look ahead.   This is important to all aspects of the business because it allows one to respond to the market instead of just reacting to it.  Mr. Kagia shares this brilliant process with us, and he tells us what it can mean.

The Future of Dispensaries

MJ Research logoMichael J. Regan & Colin-Ferrian join us from MJResearchCo which conducts investment analysis and valuation of the cannabis industry.  Prior to the pandemic, the model used for building a dispensary was the Apple store.  Depending on the size of sophistication of these dispensaries, one could spend anywhere from one half million to a million dollars on construction.  However, in the pandemic, cannabis was determined to be an essential product in some areas, so buying methods and delivery systems of cannabis suddenly changed.  Home delivery quickly became a huge business in California and Colorado.   Other states may follow.  They may also develop online purchasing and drone delivery.   What does this mean for the brick and mortar store and conventional dispensaries?

Cultivation Tips: What You Don’t Know

From Seeds to Success by Ryan DouglasRyan Douglas authored ‘From Seeds to Success: How to Launch a Great Cannabis Cultivation Business in Record Time.’ This revealing work shows how the business model for cannabis dispensaries has changed. Now, the better profitability lies in cultivation. The cost of building dispensaries averages a half million to a million dollars, and some of these expensive endeavors would up being sold at a loss by to the owners. Educated consumers are now researching product on their own without turning to dispensaries to help them make up their mind. Mr. Ryan points out that there is a plethora of literature on how to grow cannabis, but very little to nothing that spoke to any industry on how to lay down a clear path for planning and launching cannabis cultivation. His book provides a step by step method for researching, planning, raising funds, designing, launching and expanding a successful cultivation business with a goal of coming to market as quickly as possible.

Investing in Cannabis Equity

MJ Research logoMichael J. Regan is a generalist equity analyst for consumer durables & cyclicals, industrials, chemicals, aerospace, media, telecom, tech, and REITs.  Shortly after a cannabis boom in the market, we found that cannabis had not done as well as the broader market indexes.  Now the market is changing again.  That leaves, the question, if cannabis is not in one’s portfolio, where should one be buying?   Mr. Regan explains why the US operators are more attractive than the Canadian operators at this point.  New investors tend to lump the entire traded sector into one, but cannabis in general has sub-markets.  This and other observations bring light to things that investors often do not discover until after they are in the market.  Listen in!  Certainly, we need to maintain our state of being psychologically.  Mr. Regan addresses these issues point by point.  What can you do for yourself and your children?  Even more important than this is – what should we do for our physical health?  Easy to overlook basics are ever more important now.  Listen to a good doseof common sense mixed with detailed research as you contemplate your defense and wellbeing in the days ahead.

Federal Declassification Laws – What’s Happening There?

National Cannabis Industry Association logoMorgan Fox is the Media Relations Director for the National Cannabis Industry Association.  As such, he has his finger on the pulse of what’s happening with proposed and pending legislation regarding cannabis.  Rapid change is in the works for declassifying cannabis at the federal law.  Cannabis is still a ‘Schedule 1’ drug under federal law which makes violation a serious charge.  Conflicting with that standing law is the fact that so many states have legalized medical and even recreational use of marijuana.  The new administration seems favorable toward changing this, and it has a like-party Congress that could back up any move in that direction and new bills are on the way.  Mr. Fox brings us the latest on what is happening in these exciting potential changes in our near future.

Dr. Molly McCann, Ed.D. is Director of Industry Analytics, New Frontier Data which is a recognized authority in cannabis market research and analysis. Hear some forecasts that were made on what movement we may see this year on changing federal law for cannabis. Will the focus be on moving cannabis from a Schedule 1 substance to Schedule 2, or could Congress move toward complete de-criminalization? Projections are that we will have federally legal cannabis at some time. When this happens, a lot of large companies outside of the cannabis base are going to rush in. So, we are likely to see rapid acceleration in the already expanding cannabis industry; the only question that remains is – when.

COMING UP – THIS SATURDAY December 19th, 2020
SEASON 2 EPISODE 31

W420 Radio Correspondent Rich Walcoff in the field Special Report:
National Changes for Cannabis, with Former Mayor Willie Brown

Willie Brown is the former Mayor of San Francisco and one of the leading Democratic figures for more than a generation. He is also the former president of Harborside, the first and largest marijuana dispensary in California. Now, fifteen states have legal adult use of marijuana and thirty-two states have the use of medical marijuana. Still, it is prohibited on the federal level as a Schedule One drug. Mr. Brown offers a perspective on what the incoming administration will do to address this conflict between national vs. state legislation on marijuana. The lead on change may come from the House of Representatives but there are obstacles in the Senate. The MORE Act and the Safe Banking Act are key pieces of legislature that will help the industry manage commerce and it will allow consumer spending with credit cards. This could bring help to veterans who need cannabis treatment. Catch the signposts to the future from a voice of experience. Change is certain.

The MORE Act vote by the House of Representatives to Decriminalize Pot

Morgan Fox joins us from the National Cannabis Industry Association. The House of Representative recently passed the MORE Act (or the, Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment & Expungement Act). This is to decriminalize on the federal level and to de-schedule cannabis, provide for reinvestment in certain persons adversely impacted by the War on Drugs, provide for expungement of certain cannabis offenses, and for other purposes. The vote may have been postponed until after the general election so as not to jeopardize re-election of legislators who vote for it. What happens next in the Senate may determine the fate of this bill.

The UN Accepts WHO Recommendation to Remove Cannabis from High Danger Listing

Alfredo Pascual is the International Analyst at Marijuana Business Daily, specializing in European and Latin American cannabis markets. The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs decided to accept one of the World Health Organization recommendations to remove cannabis from Schedule 4 of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. This means that marijuana is no longer considered to be as dangerous as other substances in Schedule 4 of international drug control because it does have some medical utility. Marijuana does remain in Schedule 1 of international control, but its benefits are recognized. This decision at the level of the UN will help relieve obstacles to legalization in various countries as support for the benefits of cannabis.

What could the MORE Act means to Racial Minorities
Who Have Higher Rates of COVID?

Pamela Moore is VP of Publishing for Marijuana Business Daily. She talks to us about how passage of the MORE Act can influence social justice. Many people of color fill essential job such as refuge removal and feats of physical labor and they cannot remain at home during lockdown. This puts them on the front line while many are huddled together in shared housing conditions. Vaccine relief and effective legislation many ameliorate the plight of many of effected Americans in this trying and transitional time.

Willie BrownWillie Brown is the former Mayor of San Francisco and one of the leading Democratic figures for more than a generation.

National Cannabis Industry Association logoMorgan Fox joins us from the National Cannabis Industry Association. What happens next in the Senate regarding may determine the fate of this bill.

The UN Accepts WHO Recommendation to Remove Cannabis from High Danger Listing

Marijuana Business Daily Alfredo Pascual is the International Analyst at Marijuana Business Daily, specializing in European and Latin American cannabis markets.

What could the MORE Act means to Racial Minorities Who Have Higher Rates of COVID?

Marijuana Business DailyPamela Moore is VP of Publishing for Marijuana Business Daily.

COMING UP – THIS SATURDAY June 20th
SEASON 2 EPISODE 19

“CANNABIS DOCTOR ON CALL”
with Harvard Doctor, Dr. Jordan Tishler:

COVID Sequestered Mentality

Dr. Jordan Tishler comments on the maladies we are facing as we are confined into limited exposure due to the Corona Virus outbreak. Suicides in some areas are up, as well as depression and anxiety. We also face confusion as advisors change their minds about what is safe and what isn’t, and their admissions that there is much we don’t know. Doubt and uncertainty about the future are taking a toll on mental health.

Business Shift to Marijuana Online

Russel Brunson is CEO & Founder of ClickFunnels, a website and sales funnel builder for entrepreneurs. In the business slowdown and social distancing now imposed by COVID-19, marijuana businesses and dispensaries are looking to conduct more business online. Mr. Brunson explains how people are shifting to virtual business and enhancing their online presence. The key is to convert visitors into leads and then customers. Acceleration into virtual media during this crisis is setting precedents that will last long after the pandemic recedes. Hear this put into perspective.

Cannabis Business Deductions?

Morgan Fox is the Media Relations Director of the National Cannabis Industry Association. He talks about the 280E tax code that prevents the cannabis industry from deducting normal business expenses like every other business. Meanwhile, taxes on the cannabis industry have increased. A court brief filed recently means the IRS may be taken to court over this in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Fox lays out what lead the cannabis industry to this potentially precedent setting legal recourse.

Social Distance – Virtual Union: Cyber Conferencing

Jess Tyler is Vice-President of Events at Marijuana Business Daily. Her company planned a major annual conference which was to take place in New Orleans to the draw of thousands of attendees. However, social distancing now forbids such a gathering. As a conference planner, Jess Tyler was tasked with converting their plans to a virtual meeting, so she arranged a cyber conference instead. She employed technologies for; live content, speaker Q & As, one to one networking and interactions, chats between attendees and speakers, and, virtual expo halls. This exemplifies how the cannabis industry leaders are making momentous shifts amid the corona virus pandemic.
