Minorities for Medical Marijuana

M4MMDr. Lance McCarthy works as a board advisor for Minorities for Medical Marijuana, Inc. M4MM is a non profit organization with its corporate office based in Orlando Florida. It was established to focus on on providing advocacy, outreach, research, and training as it relates to the business, social reform, public policy, and health /wellness in the cannabis industry.  They actively connect people to opportunities in the marijuana industry for minorities.  The difficulty in the industry has always been the lack of access to capital, even when one has the skill set and is able to work in the industry.  M4MM is backed by many corporate donors as it facilitates progress and change, but disparities in the legal system and other challenges reveal how we need to make more inroads to open doors.  Government support happens on the state level, not federal, but many states give extra benefits to those who have a social equity or minority partner in their application.   Knowing the playing field and catting through the red tape help reveal opportunities that many do not know exist.  That is where M4MM clears the smoke.

Cannabis is not a Drug, but an Herb!

Dr. Cass Ingram: The Cannabis CureDr. Cass Ingram references to archeological finds that reveal ancient people grew cannabis as a medicinal herb.  Ancient Egyptians used it in childbirth and surgery to reduce pain.  They also used it for nervousness and agitation.  Ancient Greeks also made medicine from cannabis to ease surgical pain.  The Indus Valley has a long history of using medicinal cannabis.  History shows that may cultures discovered the medicinal properties of cannabis.  We are rediscovering benefits that held true across the ages.

W420 Radio Correspondent Rich Walcoff in the field Special Report:
Former Harborside CEO Andrew Berman

Andrew BermanAndrew Berman is the former CEO of Harborside, California’s largest dispensary.  He was also the mayor of Mill Valley twice.  Mr. Berman tells how changing markets are shaping the industry.  Public markets are driven out of Canada, cash flow dried up in some regions and the market got harder for some.  Andrew draws from his experience, his legal background and his venture capitalist experience to share his perspective on how the market is turning.  He also offers industry forecast outlook.

Women in Cannabis with Chase Roberts:
NORML Deputy Director, Ellen Komp

NORMLEllen Komp is Deputy Director, California NORML (state chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). Ellen Komp is a longtime marijuana reform activist and author. She began in Los Angeles where she helped plan hemp rallies and volunteered for LA NORML and various initiative campaigns, including Prop. 215, which legalized medical marijuana in California in 1996. Ellen was an editor on Jack Herer’s book “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” and has published her own book, “Tokin’ Women: A 4000-Year Herstory.” She is currently deputy director of California NORML and she blogs at TokinWoman.blogspot.com.

Since its inception in 1970, NORML has been at the forefront in the world of cannabis and the call for legislative repeal.   Ellen walks us through the history of this once fringe, and now iconic organization.  When you listen to the changes and growth of NORML, you hear a piece of American history and how the cannabis industry grew from the underground to become a multi-billion dollar enterprise that funds government coffers in dozens of states.  Now that cannabis is respected and the focus of great medical research, legalization continues to grow.   As old restrictions are lifted, one might wonder if NORML will outlive its pioneering usefulness.  Quite the contrary, NORML continues the fight to move public toward legalizing legalizing the responsible use of marijuana by adults.  NORML still leads the way as it works for consumer access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.  There is a long road ahead, but NORML not only knows how to travel the road, they helped pave it.

Medical Cannabinoids

Michigan State University emblemNorbert Kaminski is a Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Michigan State University where he also serves as the Director of the Institute for Integrative Toxicology and the Interim Director of the Center for Research on Ingredient Safety.  He tells us about work on how inflammation occurs in the human body.  Inflammation in itself can be a helpful process that protects the body.  The problem comes when inflammation occurs inappropriately.  In such case it can lead to damage and destruction of our tissues.  His work is focused on using cannabinoids to try and temper that inflammatory response when its inappropriate.  Learn how marijuana once again leads the way to finding remedies for our ills.

Adding Good Health to Vaccination for Defense

Brain Health EducationMichael Lewis, MD, MPH, MBA, FACPM, FACN founded the Brain Health Education and Research Institute in 2011 to; pursue educational and research endeavors, further knowledge of natural and nutritional ways, and to improve brain health.  Dr. Lewis has 30-plus years of military experience with a special emphasis on working towards improving the care and outcomes of our military personnel and veterans.  His research is crucial today in the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic as we continue to adapt to the long term effects of history’s most pervasive pandemic.  Dr. Lewis addresses this issue of public trust of vaccination and how vaccination compares to natural immunity.  This is a crucial issue at the forefront of all societies as many officials are advising of the importance of protection.  In addition to vaccine, he advises that building ones defenses through good health, diet and exercise can help one survive an attack if infected.

Science Meets Nature in Growing

The Sun On DemandA look back to the Emerald Cup event in Santa Rosa, California. W420 Lifestyles correspondent, Rich Walcoff, was on the field at the event, where he met with Sundarajan Mutialu, who is a plasma physicist. His company developed a technique that allows for the cultivation of landrace, heirloom, and other hard-to-grow medicinal genetics in controlled environments. This allows for plants to yield more than twice the number of quality cuttings on average. Proper engineering help bring out full, true genetic expression, especially when combined with living soil. This is where science uses the methods of Mother Nature in large growing facilities. Hear how!

A Review of Vaping

National Cannabis Industry Association logoAndrew Kline addresses the important of vaping.  After some surprising deaths and many injuries, a while ago, investigations into vaping ensued, legal questions arose and some states banned it altogether.  Many of the deaths and injuries resulted from the illicit market, but legitimate practices are understandably under scrutiny and reform.  Producer concern were for people to have the opportunity to purchase regulated, tested, reliable products, and to weed out the bad actors in the illegal market.  Research also shows that, when vaping cannabis, it must be done at a temperature that doesn’t change the molecular structure of the cannabinoids.  The critical issue of vaping drew the coordinated concern of research, law and production to immediately seek solutions.

W420 Lifestyles with Rich Walcoff:
Rio Anderson (Lady Sativa Farms) & Johnny Casali (Huckleberry Hills Farms), legacy Humboldt County growers – 2 of the “Humboldt High 5”

A look back to the Emerald Cup event in Santa Rosa, California.  W420 Lifestyles correspondent, Rich Walcoff, was on the field at the event, where he met with Rio & John, legacy Humboldt County growers with decades of experience.  They share their stories from then to now from the convention floor amid the cannabis convergence.

Rio Anderson reviews how growers have gone from the shadows, to marketing and telling people about what they do.  It is our legacy growers who are bringing their endemic values into to modern market that they welcome.  These values include, living close to the Earth, family heritage and small farms with regenerative agriculture.  Our pioneers feel that it is part of their duty to share something that was unique and beautiful and to preserve it as we go from the underground and into the bright light of modernization.
Trychemistry.com/

Johnny Casali reveals how, as much as things have changed, they have also remained the same.  Still, Johnny bears grave testimony of how eight years of his life were spent behind bars, merely for cultivating cannabis.   From his experiences, Johnny reminds us of the importance of community, family and friends.  This supersedes the quest for profit and blind ambition.  Experienced, down home growers are the roots of this plant business, and it is they who are instilling the core of what we need to move forward.

Cannabis in Cancer Research

Association of American CannabisDr. Jordan Tishler of the Association of Cannabis Specialists brings us up to date in how cannabis is playing a role in cancer research. Breakthroughs in treatment are becoming greater and clinical trials are also covering diverse aspects of cannabis treatment.  This reveals how cannabis has been under utilized.  More work is needed to broaden outreach and acceptance of cannabis because it is under-utilized.  Dr. Tishler’s underscore’s why.

CBD in England

The Original PharmacistJibril Farah is a pharmacist based in London who discovered e of the benefits of cannabis for people who were in treatment.  He tells us about CBD products in England, which became legal in 2019.  Marijuana became permissible with a prescription.  However, England did not readily have marijuana dispensaries so consumers had to have their prescriptions sent to The Netherlands, from where it would be shipped.  This added import fees to the cost.   Doctors were also nervous about prescribing cannabis because of potential legal repercussions if any problems were to result from its use.  These stories show reflect upon the universal problems that arise as we are in the transition of legalization.

Scientific Etraction Methods

When the George Floyd riots exploded in the United States, many cannabis dispensaries were vandalized and overrun by angry mobs bent on destruction of property.
Several of the SF Bay Area’s dispensaries were sought out, targeted, and invaded by angry mobs that stole millions of dollars in inventory – namely because of what they had created (ironically for peaceful, medicinal, and recreational reasons). This is a major reason why dispensaries refuse to disclose their operational locations even though they all have invested quite a bit in building security,

In this conversation, you will hear from Brad Robertson (Guild Extracts) and Big Red (Apex Extracts).

Brad RobertsonBrad Robertson has been on the forefront of cannabis cultivation and extraction processes for more than a decade. With one of the first cannabis plant tissue culture labs in California, Brad has been leading the way in genetic storage and mass micro-propagation techniques along with advanced extraction processes. Along the way, Brad founded two award-winning California licensed cannabis companies, Guild Extracts and Cali Labs. Through research and development in these companies, they have perfected and patented extraction, isolation and purification techniques for many compounds found in the cannabis plant including cannabinoids that contain their carboxyl group, decarboxylized cannabinoids as well as terpene extraction and isolation. Being on the forefront of cannabinoid purifications has given Brad and his team a unique place in the cannabis market. Being able to produce pure cannabinoids though their patented processes that require less solvent and energy than other processors has really made his team one of the leading cannabis companies in the industry. Medical Practice Changes amid the Pandemic?
