How Pot Got Legal

Wayne JustmannWayne Justmann, sometimes called “the Godfather of Legal Weed,” he will forever be known as Patient #1 in the California medical marijuana program.  This pioneer in the cannabis legalization movement tell us that “All use of cannabis is medical.”  Wayne worked on the words of Proposition 215 in the years leading up to legalization in 1996.  This held that a patient, with a doctor’s recommendation or approval, could possess or cultivate cannabis for their illnesses and health related issues.   If you’re living in one of the 36 states which has legal marijuana, or one of the 16 states that permits growing and adult use for any reason, you may owe some debt of gratitude to Mr. Justmann.  He received the very first legal marijuana use card in the United States.  Hear the story of this pioneer trek toward legalization and the obstacles they faced.

He offers an array of successfully marketed growing products, he also teaches growers in gardening techniques. His leading company, Advanced Nutrients, is premiering a line of products this quarter called, ‘BigMike’s Blend.’ This line includes pre-rolls, concentrates and vape pens, all developed with state of the art technology. Now we have legalization, decriminalization and the need for relief from COVID sequestering. BigMike lends his expertise on what he has seen in the industry and where he sees it going in the next 20 years and beyond.
Their NXTECK enables digital and programmatic advertisers and leading AdTech companies to better understand, target, reach, and engage with the legal cannabis consumer audience globally for increased campaign performance.

W420 Lifestyle Radio Correspondent Rich Walcoff
in the field Special Report:
National Changes for Cannabis,
with Former Mayor Willie Brown

Willie Brown is the former Mayor of San Francisco and one of the leading Democratic figures for more than a generation. He is also the former president of Harborside, the first and largest marijuana dispensary in California. Mr. Brown has a deep understanding of California and its business, and he tells us about some of the challenges facing the cannabis industry. California did legalize medical marijuana, and not long ago, it legalized recreational marijuana. But California, like many other states, realizes the limitations that come in the absence of federal legalization. This means no national change in how you manage the resources, the banking, the payment systems and more, when you enter the legal system. As a result of that, you don’t have the normal kind of acquisition and opportunity with regular, ongoing businesses, like those who sell tobacco products. This forces an all-cash business in many cases. Added to this are high taxes and restrictive access to the product which makes it more challenging for the growers and the distributers to do it the right way. All of this encourages the black market which undermines the state-legitimizes businesses. That’s because black market entrepreneurs are not subject to the same regulations, costly guidelines and taxation. But because of the opportunities that abound, many businesses have found profitable avenues for their endeavors as they keep the industry growing. Hear insights from a man who is closely connected to the ever changing world of cannabis.

BigMike on the Cannabis Industry

Advanced NutrientsBigMike Straumietis  is pioneer and founder in the cannabis-growing industry who used his combined experience in business, marketing, horticulture, and engineering.  His company, Advanced Nutrients, revolutionized the industry by offering highly developed fertilizer made specifically for marijuana.  This made Advanced Nutrients one of the most popular nutrient brands in the marketplace.  BigMike became widely known as the source that teaches growers about hydroponic gardening. BigMike lends his expertise on what he has seen in the industry, where is, and where he sees it going in the next 20 years and beyond.

W420 Radio Correspondent Rich Walcoff in the field Special Report:
National Changes for Cannabis, with Former Mayor Willie Brown

Willie BrownWillie Brown is the former Mayor of San Francisco and one of the leading Democratic figures for more than a generation.

A Review of Vaping

National Cannabis Industry Association logoAndrew Kline addresses the important of vaping.  After some surprising deaths and many injuries, a while ago, investigations into vaping ensued, legal questions arose and some states banned it altogether.  Many of the deaths and injuries resulted from the illicit market, but legitimate practices are understandably under scrutiny and reform.  Producer concern were for people to have the opportunity to purchase regulated, tested, reliable products, and to weed out the bad actors in the illegal market.  Research also shows that, when vaping cannabis, it must be done at a temperature that doesn’t change the molecular structure of the cannabinoids.  The critical issue of vaping drew the coordinated concern of research, law and production to immediately seek solutions.

W420 Lifestyles with Rich Walcoff:
Rio Anderson (Lady Sativa Farms) & Johnny Casali (Huckleberry Hills Farms), legacy Humboldt County growers – 2 of the “Humboldt High 5”

A look back to the Emerald Cup event in Santa Rosa, California.  W420 Lifestyles correspondent, Rich Walcoff, was on the field at the event, where he met with Rio & John, legacy Humboldt County growers with decades of experience.  They share their stories from then to now from the convention floor amid the cannabis convergence.

Rio Anderson reviews how growers have gone from the shadows, to marketing and telling people about what they do.  It is our legacy growers who are bringing their endemic values into to modern market that they welcome.  These values include, living close to the Earth, family heritage and small farms with regenerative agriculture.  Our pioneers feel that it is part of their duty to share something that was unique and beautiful and to preserve it as we go from the underground and into the bright light of modernization.

Johnny Casali reveals how, as much as things have changed, they have also remained the same.  Still, Johnny bears grave testimony of how eight years of his life were spent behind bars, merely for cultivating cannabis.   From his experiences, Johnny reminds us of the importance of community, family and friends.  This supersedes the quest for profit and blind ambition.  Experienced, down home growers are the roots of this plant business, and it is they who are instilling the core of what we need to move forward.

“CANNABIS DOCTOR ON CALL” with Harvard Doctor, Dr. Jordan Tishler:

Cannabis in Cancer Research

Breakthroughs in treatment are becoming greater and clinical trials are also covering diverse aspects of cannabis treatment.  This reveals how cannabis has been under utilized.  More work is needed to broaden outreach and acceptance of cannabis because it is under-utilized.  Dr. Tishler’s underscore’s why.

CBD in England

The Original PharmacistJibril Farah is a pharmacist based in London who discovered e of the benefits of cannabis for people who were in treatment.  He tells us about CBD products in England, which became legal in 2019.  Marijuana became permissible with a prescription.  However, England did not readily have marijuana dispensaries so consumers had to have their prescriptions sent to The Netherlands, from where it would be shipped.  This added import fees to the cost.   Doctors were also nervous about prescribing cannabis because of potential legal repercussions if any problems were to result from its use.  These stories show reflect upon the universal problems that arise as we are in the transition of legalization.
