Listen to “S3.E28. Former Harborside CEO Andrew Berman. NORML Dep. Director Ellen Komp. Medical Cannabinoids.” on Spreaker.

W420 Radio Correspondent Rich Walcoff in the field Special Report:
Former Harborside CEO Andrew Berman

Andrew BermanAndrew Berman is the former CEO of Harborside, California’s largest dispensary.  He was also the mayor of Mill Valley twice.  Mr. Berman tells how changing markets are shaping the industry.  Public markets are driven out of Canada, cash flow dried up in some regions and the market got harder for some.  Andrew draws from his experience, his legal background and his venture capitalist experience to share his perspective on how the market is turning.  He also offers industry forecast outlook.

Women in Cannabis with Chase Roberts:
NORML Deputy Director, Ellen Komp

NORMLEllen Komp is Deputy Director, California NORML (state chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). Ellen Komp is a longtime marijuana reform activist and author. She began in Los Angeles where she helped plan hemp rallies and volunteered for LA NORML and various initiative campaigns, including Prop. 215, which legalized medical marijuana in California in 1996. Ellen was an editor on Jack Herer’s book “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” and has published her own book, “Tokin’ Women: A 4000-Year Herstory.” She is currently deputy director of California NORML and she blogs at TokinWoman.blogspot.com.

Since its inception in 1970, NORML has been at the forefront in the world of cannabis and the call for legislative repeal.   Ellen walks us through the history of this once fringe, and now iconic organization.  When you listen to the changes and growth of NORML, you hear a piece of American history and how the cannabis industry grew from the underground to become a multi-billion dollar enterprise that funds government coffers in dozens of states.  Now that cannabis is respected and the focus of great medical research, legalization continues to grow.   As old restrictions are lifted, one might wonder if NORML will outlive its pioneering usefulness.  Quite the contrary, NORML continues the fight to move public toward legalizing legalizing the responsible use of marijuana by adults.  NORML still leads the way as it works for consumer access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.  There is a long road ahead, but NORML not only knows how to travel the road, they helped pave it.

Medical Cannabinoids

Michigan State University emblemNorbert Kaminski is a Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Michigan State University where he also serves as the Director of the Institute for Integrative Toxicology and the Interim Director of the Center for Research on Ingredient Safety.  He tells us about work on how inflammation occurs in the human body.  Inflammation in itself can be a helpful process that protects the body.  The problem comes when inflammation occurs inappropriately.  In such case it can lead to damage and destruction of our tissues.  His work is focused on using cannabinoids to try and temper that inflammatory response when its inappropriate.  Learn how marijuana once again leads the way to finding remedies for our ills.
