Willie Brown is the former Mayor of San Francisco and one of the leading Democratic figures for more than a generation. The MORE Act vote by the House of Representatives to Decriminalize Pot
Morgan Fox joins us from the National Cannabis Industry Association. The House of Representative recently passed the MORE Act (or the, Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment & Expungement Act). This is to decriminalize on the federal level and to de-schedule cannabis, provide for reinvestment in certain persons adversely impacted by the War on Drugs, provide for expungement of certain cannabis offenses, and for other purposes. The vote may have been postponed until after the general election so as not to jeopardize re-election of legislators who vote for it. What happens next in the Senate regarding may determine the fate of this bill.

The UN Accepts WHO Recommendation to Remove Cannabis from High Danger Listing

The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs decided to accept one of the World Health Organization recommendations to remove cannabis from Schedule 4 of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. This means that marijuana is no longer considered to be as dangerous as other substances in Schedule 4 of international drug control because it does have some medical utility. Marijuana does remain in Schedule 1 of international control, but its benefits are recognized. This decision at the level of the UN will help relieve obstacles to legalization in various countries as support for the benefits of cannabis.
