He reports on the studies of Washington State, and Colorado – the first two states to legalize recreational marijuana. How did these states compare with 21 other states that have no cannabis laws whatsoever? It turns out that crime levels did not change since the opening of dispensaries in 2014.

Andrew Kline is the Director of Public Policy for the National Cannabis Industry Association. He tells about the association, and how what it is doing to influence the industry in terms of regulation and legislation. Challenges in this come from the fact that legitimate companies are following the rules while illegal markets operate and sell without regulation. Legislators have to balance between protecting public health by being fair to businesses. Meanwhile, illegal marketers who are not restricted by regulations are underselling proper businesses. On top of that, the federal gov’t considers cannabis to be a Schedule One drug. The association stays on top of these issues and works for change.
